School Counseling Services

  • School counselors deliver services through a combination of short term individual counseling and check ins, small groups, classroom SEL lessons, and schoolwide programming. They also collaborate with families and educators to ensure that students have the support they need to succeed.

SEL Curriculum

  • What is SEL?
    • Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is an integral part of education and human development. SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions.
  • Wayfinder
    • MRCS uses Wayfinder as a school-wide SEL curriculum. The Wayfinder SEL Curriculum is a K-12 research-backed social-emotional learning program focusing on purpose, belonging, and core life skills. It centers on six core skill areas: self-awareness, adaptability, empathy, collaboration, agency, and purpose. These six core skill areas of Wayfinder align with our Montessori philosophy and values.

Small Groups

  • What are small groups?
    • Small group counseling gives students the opportunity to learn and practice important social, emotional, and behavioral skills in a supportive setting with other peers who have similar needs or goals. Groups are educational, skill-based, and designed to help students succeed both in school and in their daily lives.
    • Groups typically include 4-6 students and meet either weekly or bi-weekly for 20-45 minutes. Groups are NOT pulled during key academic times or at recess.

SAP

  • What is SAP?

    The student assistance program (SAP) is a program for students who demonstrate a need for support in academics, attendance, and/or mental health counseling. In Pennsylvania, every school district is required to have a plan for identifying and assisting students who experience barriers to learning.

  • Who is on the SAP Team?

    The SAP team is made up of trained school staff who work alongside parents/guardians to discuss resources and establish a plan to maximize the student’s success.

Achievement Center

  • MRCS partners with the Achievement Center to provide school-based outpatient therapy services as well as provide our Mindfulness Room. Our Mindfulness Room is available to students 4 days a week and is used for check in/out and other social/emotional based needs.
